A Tender Moment, With the Barenaked Ladies

On Saturday, September 27th, the Barenaked Ladies did a small, intimate mini-show of 5 songs and about 20 minutes of reparteé in Raleigh, North Carolina.

We're all pretty crammed in here, so....nobody fart. --Tyler

I was fortunate enough to get there early, and get excellent seats (well, in point of fact, in any normal venue, I would have been onstage). This gave me a chance to get fabulous photographs (and thanks to Lisa, my roommate-to-be, for fetching the film when I discovered what a great opportunity I had!). I may never get a chance to do this again, and I'm glad I had this opportunity. I've been waiting 6 years to meet BNL, and this is just a day for the scrapbook. Do the usual click on the thumbnail to see the full picture.

I have been carrying a little Sesame Street Fisher Price Gordon to each concert of BNL's that I've gone to in the past few years, and I finally had a chance to give it to Ed at the end of the show! He laughed when he saw it, and he said "Hey! it looks like Tyler!" and asked if he could give it to him (Tyler, that is). He turned out to be such a sweetheart, very friendly. I suspect highly he's the one who they have to drag out of place after place because he doesn't want to leave while there's still a person wanting a signature. Jim turned out to be a doll, too; we talked a little, and I got a picture of me with him. It was really great. I'll be flying all this week. Yay!

There is an article from the Record Exchange's Music Monitor with more pictures from this performance and a bit of an interview.

If anyone has a recording of this performance, please let me know. I'll trade you a set of the pictures for it; I'd love to digitize some of the sounds for this page (not to mention getting the quotes right!).

Jim, setting up before the show. The rest of the checks were done by a sound guy, but you touch Jim's bass, you're dead. That spiky stand at the bottom is sharp, and he's not afraid to use it.

Ok, everyone. show the digiteria your favourite digits! -- Steve (and guess which was his?)
contemplating the digiteria Steve and the kid in front of me, contemplating that this was the only Barenaked Ladies performance ever given in front of a Digiteria.

"I'd like this to be...more than just a Barenaked Ladies performance. I'd like this to be a happening. So I'd like to suggest, that first, we'll play a few songs, and then, you guys and the band will descend upon Cup-A-Joe's and we'll rob them. Then it'll make the news tonight for sure. (anchorman like voice) This afternoon, 400 Barenaked Ladies fans stormed Cup-A-Joes, and made off with nearly 79 dollars worth of merchandise..." -- Ed.
a pause, for brian Everyone else in the band, during the start of Brian Wilson. It'll be time for them to play any minute now.

If you have need to modify the images, just contact me. I want to share these images with other fans, but I also am very proud about these pictures; I was thrilled to get so much in the action, and they mean a lot to me because of that. I was the only person taking pictures from this angle, btw. You won't get to claim someone near me was taking them.
