: I'm curious to hear from all y'all where you first
Well, I got hooked because I was working at the Kinko's in Harvard Square while Peter often played the T stop there. I would get off work at 8 am, and stumble home. One day, this guy there caught my attention. He was fabulous....and I was very tired. Also, I was broke, so I went home.
Of course, I didn't see him again for a long time.
Then, one night, I was working the counter at Kinko's, and he came in. He was giving his order to Xander, my co-worker, and Xander said "What's your name?" I couldn't help it...I pointed at his name on the card. "He's Peter. And he's very, vary good." Xander grinned at me and said "Well, if you feel that way, how about you take his order?" So I did, and we talked, and I told him about carrying the money for several weeks (of course I wasn't then.) He gave me Rain, though, and told me to just leave the money in the order he had left, he'd get it when he came in.
After that, I ran into him more often in the subway, and I listened to him a lot, and sat and talked to him. (I once babysat his stuff while he ran up to the Store 24 to get fig newtons, and he gave me a couple copies of Rain on tape for my efforts). The week I knew was going to be his last (though like an addict he went back to it a few months later ;-) I watched for him daily, and when I finally caught him, I went out and brought him a rose, to thank him for his music. I can proudly say that I was *the* audience during the recording of the live subway recording of WHole of the Moon. ;-)
