Philips Design Atlanta
This piece of Flash was done in the summer of 2000, and I had a lot of fun with it.
Aquent called me and asked me if I had done any Flash; I had played with it a few years
earlier, in it's beta years, and I'm a good programmer, good with Photoshop and with
vector graphics programs, so I said I had.
What I did:
- Animation:
- selecting stock art characters, colours, working with PDA, providing guidance,
steering away from complex ideas into simpler, more usable animation
- running TiVo guy and the shock when he lands (which PDA was indifferent to, but which
I thought was cute and which TiVo apparently loved)
- Animated .gif that provides the link to the Flash; Commendation from TiVo that Philips 'knew how to use their logo effectively',
with the use of the animated antenna and sense of action.
- Sound:
- Selected the music, created the loop,
- Added incidental sounds
- Balanced sound quality and file size
- State-based script that lets you turn the music on and off because
after 2 weeks of that Austin Powersy-riff, I was going nuts; our users might not have needed
to turn it on and off, but I sure did.
- Javascripts:
- Browser and plug-in detection
- Custom sized pop-up window for animation
This animated .gif and Flash animation was a permanent item on Philipsusa.com homepage (while
other items were randomly rotated) from August 2000 until September 2001.
